Community Development Projects YWCA is an
embodiment of social service through volunteers who are its
members. In addition to providing ample of opportunities and
avenues for the empowerment of its volunteers and its work
on social and cultural changes, YWCA of Kottayam respond to
current needs by offering a variety of service oriented programmes
to the needy women and girls of all age groups, caste and
creed to build self-reliance and independence in them and
improve their quality of life, especially that of the deprived
and the marginalized.
Community development activities that fall under the umbrella
of Public Affairs and Social Issues of concern to YWCA of
Kottayam include both long term and short term programmes
to realize its vision and accomplish its mission. The Community
Development Committee collaborates with NGOs in the local
area to identify tasks and deserving cases that need support
from it.
The various action projects cover medical camps, financial
support to needy women like those in abject poverty or disabled
or bed ridden women and the like whose quality of living can
be improved with financial support from YWCA. Thus, YWCA through
its community development tasks may focus on financial assistance
to construct toilets, improve their sanitation and hygiene,
provision of wheel chair or medical aid to the needy women.
Apart from such tasks, medical camps in select schools and
free medical treatment to children, financial support to select
schools to buy school bags, books and uniforms for economically
weak students, sharing meal/s with 150 inmates of old age
home in charitable institutions, funds for meal/s in Juvenile
Homes and so on the institution varying from time to time
to reach out to a wider target group. In addition, financial
support is given to deserving candidates to pursue professional
courses like Engineering and medicine. |
