 Establishment, Affiliation, Constitution and Membership


Establishment
YWCA of Kottayam was formed on January 8th 1933 and its memorandum was registered under Section 28, Act XII, 1955.

Affiliation
YWCA of Kottayam is affiliated to YWCA of India since January 1938 and it is therefore, a part of the World YWCA.

Constitution
YWCA of Kottayam has its own constitution drawn as per the guidelines provided by National YWCA with some modifications to serve the local needs and purpose of YWCA appropriately.

Membership
YWCA is a voluntary membership organization. Women and girls above 8 years of age from different economic, social, racial, occupational, religious and cultural groups can become members to serve the society at large.

Categories of Membership
  • Electoral members are those women of 18 years of age or above who subscribe to the Basis of YWCA (Article II) and accept its Aim (Article III). Youth members are = 18 to 35 years of age while Junior members include those who are = 12 to 18 years of age.
  • Associate members are those women of 18 years of age or above who are in sympathy with the Aim of YWCA (Article III) but do not subscribe to the Christian Basis (Article II).
  • Supporters include any person who is supporting the work of YWCA as an organization and they may become Supporter members by paying the annual contribution as prescribed from time to time.
