Vision, Mission, Objectives
Vision
Vision of YWCA of Kottayam as in other associations
is to empower women including girl children at all levels to
struggle for justice, create a niche in the larger world and
make a difference in their own lives and of the communities
and spheres of their action / interaction. Mission
Mission of YWCA of Kottayam is rooted in its vision.
The larger picture of vision stem from the reality of pluralism
prevalent in the country and of the fact that majority of
the women capital which form nearly 50 per cent of India’s
human resource suffer injustice in all realms of activities
like social, political, economic, religious, familial and
cultural, and they are yet to enter the main stream of social
and economic accounting system on an equal footing with that
of their male counterparts. Many women across the socio-economic
fabric of Indian society are still marginalized, deprived
and/or oppressed. Women in our society, by and large, are
subject to economic, social, cultural, political injustice
and are easily moulded and attuned by socio-cultural, religious
and political ethos of the system. They blissfully suffer
exploitation and deprivation of their rights. Girl children
are a special category of concern to YWCA.
This means moving into a mission that is rooted in the reality
of our country where people are victims of economic and social
injustice and are manipulated by social, religious, and political
powers. The Mission demands a changing of structures that
are hierarchical and patriarchal, thereby encouraging equal
participation of women at all levels. It also demands a change
in the structures and ways of working within the YWCA, breaking
down barriers of class and caste. A major focus must be awareness
building, study and analysis of situations in its past and
present contexts. This must become necessary dimensions of
every programme in the YWCA. It is imperative that the YWCA
works with organizations with similar vision and mission.
Further, It is required of every YWCA member/leader to have
a commitment to this mission.
